Overwatch 2 Announces New Stadium Mode

Overwatch 2 is shaking things up with a brand-new mode called Stadium, set to release on April 22, 2025. This mode introduces a third-person perspective and a fresh take on competitive play, offering a unique 5v5 experience unlike anything seen in Overwatch before.
What Is Stadium Mode?
Stadium is a multi-round, best-of-seven game mode where two teams compete using locked-in heroes for the entire match. The third-person camera gives players a full view of their character, allowing for better spatial awareness and showcasing cosmetics during gameplay.
Core Features:
- 5v5 format: 1 Tank, 2 Damage, 2 Support
- Third-person only
- Hero lock per match
- 17 Heroes available at launch
- Separate ranked system with exclusive seasonal rewards
Hero Progression: Items, Powers, and Stadium Cash
After each round, players earn Stadium Cash, a scoring currency used to upgrade their hero.
Items:
- Boost stats, weapons, and abilities
- Available in Common, Rare, and Epic tiers
- Up to 6 can be equipped
- Some are universal; others are hero-specific
Powers:
- Add unique passives or new active abilities
- Can significantly change how a hero plays
- Combine strategically for powerful synergies
If you’re unsure what to equip, pre-built Example Builds are available for guidance.
Available Heroes at Launch
Tanks: D.Va, Junker Queen, Orisa, Reinhardt, Zarya
Damage: Ashe, Cassidy, Genji, Mei, Reaper, Soldier: 76
Support: Ana, Juno, Kiriko, Lucio, Mercy, Moira
More heroes will be added with each season.
Maps and Modes
Stadium will launch with 9 maps, pulling from Control, Push, and Clash game types. These maps have been adjusted specifically for the new mode.
- Clash: First to win two out of three points
- Control: Single-round with faster capture times
- Push: Shortened distances compared to standard mode
Future seasons will expand the map rotation.
Stadium Competitive Ranks
Stadium has its own ranking system, separate from traditional Competitive Play. Ranks reset each season to account for balance changes, new Powers, and hero additions. Players can climb through leagues to earn exclusive cosmetic rewards, including the All-Stars Juno skin for reaching the top tier.
